If you’re on the Shielded Patient List, you’ve probably received a guidance letter from the Department of Health and Social Care regarding changes to shielding from 1st April 2021.

Shielding advice is paused nationwide from 31st March 2021, however, everyone must still follow the distancing rules in place. Along with this, shielding related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) claims and day one Statutory Sick Pay will also cease, where employees were eligible for SSP from the first qualifying day, rather than the usual day four.

Since the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS) has been extended to 30th September, employees who were advised to shield may still be eligible and placed on furlough by their employer.
