The statutory sick pay rebate scheme will end on 30th September 2021 as per the new Legislation laid before parliament. During the pandemic, the small and medium-sized employer was able to reclaim the SSP from HMRC where the employees were not able to work either due to covid or self-isolation after meeting someone who tested positive for the virus. The employers who are eligible must claim their rebate by 31 December 2021.

This scheme is now due to end on 30 September 2021. Employers should make all the claims by 31st December 2021 for periods up to 30 September 2021 or they might miss out on the rebate. From 1 October 2021, HMRC won’t help the employers with the cost of SSP if the employees will not be able to work due to coronavirus. Employers will have to bear the cost in that case.
